UVC Radiometers

UV-C radiometers / UVC light meters for measuring the irradiance (µW/cm²) and dose (mJ/cm²) of germicidal lamps including Hg, excimer and xenon lamps as well as UV-C LEDs. Compact, laboratory grade UVC meters for use in the field, product development and research. UVC Meter Product Selection Guide below:

Short wavelength high energy ultraviolet radiation in the UV-C spectral range from 100 nm to 280 nm is widely used in the germicidal and bactericidal disinfection of air, surfaces and water.

UVC radiation is lethal to airborn pathogens that can cause diseases like tuberculosis. The COVID-19 pandemic has sparked a marked increase in demand for germicidal UV sources and the need for accurate measurements with suitable UVC light meters.

In order to maintain Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiance (UVGI) efficacy while ensuring safety from overexposure to UV radiation, measurements of the germicidal sources and areas of application are performed.

Due to its high and pre-dominantly monochromatic output at 253.7nm, low pressure mercury has historically been the light source of choice in UV-C germicidal applications. Medium and high pressure mercury sources are also in use as well as pulsed Xenon.

New developments in germicidal UV sources of particular note are UV-C LED arrays (265-280)nm and far UV lamps such as excimer KrCl (222nm).

Our range of UVC radiometers enable measurements in accordance with important standards for germicidal UVC products including IEC/EN 62471, DIN/TS 67506, and IEC 60335-2-65. See application note about Germicidal UVC Standards for a full description.

Gigahertz Optik GmbH offers a comprehensive range of UVC radiometers, UVC light meters and UVC spectroradiometers designed and calibrated for the accurate measurement of irradiance and dose of all these germicidal UV source technologies. This means our UV detectors often offer several calibration entries for different UV sources. This is the bases for accurate UVC measurements with such a UVC meter.

UVC radiometers in general are available based on two different technologies:

  • Integral measuring UVC radiometers / UVC light meters are most suited for routine measurements of the UV irradiance from known source types. These UVC light meters are inexpensive and very easy to use and are based on filtered photodiode detectors which are read out by transimpedance amplifiers.
  • UVC spectroradiometers are ideal for research work and product development or quality control of UVC light sources. They provide greatest radiometric accuracy independent of the source type and deep analyses of the spectral shape of the UVC radiator. We offer superb stray light correction for our array-spectroradiometers in the UVC spectral range. Our UVC spectral light meters are very easy to use and all corrections are automatically applied for easy to access high accurate UVC spectral measurements, e.g. of UVC LEDs which tend to drift in wavelenght by temperature and show significant aging.

Gigahertz-Optik developed a product range of compact integral and spectral measuring UVC measurement systems and meters. These are portable, hand-held system and easy-to-use. Our spectroradiometer offers superb stray light reduction for highest measurement accuracy.

Nowadays, due to the many different light sources, also the UVC radiometer has to offer different calibrations for e.g. LEDs, Excimer lamps or Mercury sources. We offer such standard calibrations as well as individual calibrations. Of course, these are traceable to NMI like NIST or PTB. Our high quality calibration and testing laboratory can also perform extensive ISO 17025 calibrations or tests.
